The binkie

My son just turned 2 yesterday and I thought that it is time for him to give up his binkie. I have cut the end of the nipple off and gave it back to him. He puts it in his mouth and then looks up at me in total dissatisfaction. He takes it back out almost immediately. He shows it to me and all I can think of to say is the binkie is broke. So far I think that it will be working except for him whinning for his binkie. I hope that we don't break down and give him a unbroken one!

  1. Does he use the binky to sleep with, or all day? I did research about this for my kids. If they only use it to sleep, most doctors are ok with taking the binky away at 2-3 years of age. It's when they are using it constantly that is is bad because it can mess up their palate and deform their teeth. Since you already begun the weaning process, be strong, it's short-lived. If you can't, don't beat yourself up. Good Luck!

  2. funny story! When I was very young my best friend and I were outside playing, we were probably 4years old. She still had her binky and this was a real problem for me. I took her binky and threw it in a hole on the side of her house. There was no way that she could get it back now. She chased me, must have been all day. Told her mom not to let me come and play anymore, and let me tell you she was mad for days. We still bring this up for laughs once in a while. I know this doesn't help you now, but your little one will soon forget about this and find something else to occupy his time. When he ask for it try playing some sort of game with him to take his mind off of it. Distraction is usually a good teacher at this age.
